Lafayette police announced arrests Wednesday in a March shooting that left one person dead in the parking lot of an apartment complex off Kaliste Saloom Road.
Suspects taken into custody after multi-jurisdiction search
Authorities identified the suspects as Durrall Alexander Jr., 22, of Franklin, and JMichael Gray, 22, also of Franklin. Alexander was arrested in Sioux City, Iowa, and is awaiting extradition to Lafayette. Gray was located by the Lafayette Police Department’s Special Investigative Unit and booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.
The shooting occurred in March at the Grande Pointe Apartments near the 3600 block of Kaliste Saloom Road. Responding officers found a body in the parking lot after a call reporting a shooting just after 6:30 a.m. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have not released the name of the victim.
Charges and ongoing investigation
Both men face a slate of charges filed by local prosecutors. The charges listed by law enforcement include second-degree murder, the illegal use of weapons, aggravated criminal damage to property, conspiracy to commit second-degree murder and criminal street gangs and patterns.
