ROME, Ga. — Two Floyd County residents were booked into the county jail after deputies say three dogs escaped a fenced yard on June 25 and attacked three people, leaving all of them injured and in need of medical treatment.
Charges and arrests
Arrest warrants obtained from the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office name Yvonne Deneen Sullivan as charged with reckless conduct in connection with the incident. A second person, Danny Ray Sullivan, faces a reckless conduct charge and a separate felony probation violation charge. Court records show both were booked into the Floyd County Jail; the investigation remains ongoing.
What investigators say happened
According to the warrants, the three dogs were not properly restrained and escaped from a fenced yard on June 25. The animals then attacked three people, who suffered a range of injuries including severe lacerations, puncture wounds and scratches. All three victims were transported to Atrium Health Floyd for additional medical treatment.
"The accused knowingly had three dogs that could escape their fenced yard and failed to take corrective action to prevent their escape,"
The warrants allege one victim sustained particularly serious injuries: puncture wounds, lacerations and scratches across multiple areas of the body, and a "substantial portion of flesh" near the elbow was removed during the attack.
Prior warnings and timeline
Records show the county’s animal control had previously responded to a report about the same dogs. On May 20, an animal control officer went to the property after a Floyd County E-911 call reporting aggressive behavior by the animals. Despite that earlier response, authorities say the owners failed to take corrective action before the June 25 incident.
