The Tennessee Department of Education on Monday released district-level results from the 2025-26 Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program (TCAP), giving families a more detailed view of student performance across English language arts, math and social studies.

Participation high across the state

TDOE reported robust test participation statewide: 141 districts achieved participation rates of at least 97%, and 125 districts reached 99% or higher. Science results are not part of this release because science testing is in a standard-setting year.

Where districts improved and excelled

The statewide release builds on last month’s summary of Tennessee results showing gains in English, math and social studies. At the district level, TDOE said 86 districts increased overall proficiency rates from the 2024-25 school year to 2025-26, and 118 districts showed improvement when compared with 2023-24.

  • 78 districts had more than 40% of students score at "met expectations" or "exceeded expectations" across tested subjects.
  • 30 districts had more than 50% of students meet or exceed expectations across all subjects.
  • 27 districts reported math proficiency rates of 50% or higher.

In English language arts, two rural districts — Morgan County Schools and Stewart County Schools — posted some of the largest year-over-year gains, according to TDOE. On the high end, University Schools-Memphis led ELA proficiency at 73.9%, followed by Collierville Schools at 71.9%.

Measure Notable figure
Districts with ≥97% participation 141
Districts with ≥99% participation 125
Districts improving vs. 2024-25 86
Top all-subject proficiency (district) Williamson County Schools, 73.9%

What this means for families and local schools

While the statewide gains are encouraging, TDOE's district breakdown underscores local variation. Some districts posted strong proficiency and participation numbers, while others remain well below statewide leaders. Families can use the dashboard to explore results by grade level, subject, student group and community — an important tool for parents, teachers and local boards considering interventions, tutoring programs or curriculum changes.

District leaders and educators typically use this level of detail to identify where resources are most needed, and to examine which schools or student groups still trail statewide expectations. The department's dashboard offers a searchable interface so districts, schools and families can view results specific to their community.

The department's full district-level TCAP dashboard is available on the Tennessee Department of Education website for parents and community members seeking more granular data about performance in their districts.
