Amaya Battle, who finished a four-year career at the University of Minnesota as one of the program’s all-time leaders, has signed a contract with Logiman Broni of Italy’s Serie A1, the club confirmed. The move sends one of Minnesota’s most accomplished recent college players to the professional ranks abroad.
From Hopkins to Italy
Battle arrived at the Gophers after a celebrated high school career at Hopkins, where she won two state championships and was named the 2022 Minnesota State High School League Ms. Basketball. She remained in state for college and concluded her tenure at Minnesota with significant statistical milestones.
| Career totals (Minnesota) | Figure |
|---|---|
| Points | 1,533 |
| Rebounds | 776 |
| Assists | 599 |
Those numbers place her among program leaders: she ranks 10th in both scoring and rebounds in Minnesota history and sits second on the Gophers’ all-time assists list, surpassing Lindsay Whalen's mark.
Legacy and next steps
Battle became the only Gopher in the women’s program to finish with at least 1,500 points, 590 assists and 750 rebounds. Nationally, during the 2025-26 season she was one of only two Division I players to reach similar thresholds while spending her entire college career at a single school.
“There’s a ton of talent in Minnesota. Growing up and watching them play in high school, a lot of talent would leave. All of us from Minnesota who stuck around, we showed that you can leave a legacy here at home.”
That sense of staying local and building the program at Minnesota was a point of pride for Battle throughout her college career. She helped lead the Gophers to their first Sweet 16 appearance in more than two decades before Minnesota’s run ended against UCLA.
After the NCAA season concluded, Battle had only a brief respite before pursuing professional opportunities. She attended a training camp with the WNBA’s Minnesota Lynx and has now accepted the offer to play in Italy’s top women’s league, Serie A1, with Logiman Broni, based in Broni, Lombardy.
- High school: Hopkins High School — two state championships, 2022 Ms. Basketball
- College: University of Minnesota — 1,533 points, 776 rebounds, 599 assists

Battle’s departure to Europe continues a long pattern of American college standouts beginning their professional careers overseas. For Minnesota, her path underscores the growing profile of the state’s women’s basketball pipeline and provides a model for local players weighing professional options after college.
Coverage will continue as Battle begins her season abroad and if she pursues additional opportunities in the WNBA or other leagues.
