CLEARFIELD COUNTY, Pa. — A residential explosion Thursday morning destroyed a home on Pentz Lane near Curwensville and sent two people to the hospital, emergency officials said.
Major response, ongoing fire suppression
The blast was reported at about 7:30 a.m. in Ferguson Township, according to on-scene fire officials. Multiple fire departments and tanker trucks responded to the scene, and firefighters remained on site hosing down hot spots as smoke continued to be visible hours after the initial call.
The Mahaffey Fire Company captain confirmed the incident was a house explosion and that two people were transported to a hospital. The captain said he believed the injuries were minor.
Damage and scene description
Photographs from the scene show the residence was destroyed by the blast; only the garage remained standing on the property. A reporter at the scene described ongoing firefighting activity as crews worked to cool remaining hot areas.
Authorities have not released the identities of the people taken to the hospital, nor further details about their condition beyond the captain’s assessment that the injuries appear minor.
Investigation continues
Fire officials said the cause of the explosion remains under investigation. Local fire agencies and any involved state investigators typically examine blast scenes to determine whether the origin was accidental — for example, related to gas, fuel or other household hazards — or the result of other causes. No determination has been announced.
