CHICAGO — A late-evening shooting in the Washington Park area left one man dead and three others wounded Thursday, Chicago police said Friday.

What happened

Authorities say the incident unfolded about 9 p.m. in the 5100 block of South Calumet Avenue when a dark-colored car stopped alongside a large group of people and someone inside opened fire. The vehicle then fled east on 51st Street, police said.

Four men were struck and transported to area hospitals. Police and hospital reports list their ages, treatment locations and conditions as follows:

  • 34-year-old man: Shot in the legs; taken to Northwestern Medical Center and listed in good condition.
  • 35-year-old man: Shot in the body; taken to Northwestern Medical Center and listed in good condition.
  • 54-year-old man: Shot in the body; taken to University of Chicago Medical Center and listed in good condition.
  • 44-year-old man: Shot in the chest; taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition and later died.

Investigation under way
