JACKSON — A second suspect in the March 1, 2024, shooting death of 17-year-old Arthur Brown was arrested by U.S. Marshals on July 14 and is now facing capital murder and armed robbery charges, Jackson Police Department officials said.
Arrest follows tip, detectives say
Jackson police said their Robbery/Homicide detectives received a tip on June 18, 2026, that implicated Kaleb Washington in the slaying. Detectives followed up on the information, obtained a warrant and contacted U.S. Marshals to take Washington into custody. He was booked into city holding and appeared in court where bond decisions were set.

Ongoing investigation; police request tips
Jackson Police Department officials described the matter as an active and ongoing investigation. They asked anyone with information about the case to contact JPD at (601) 960-1800 or Crime Stoppers at (601) 355-TIPS (8477). Detectives obtained the arrest warrant after determining the tip provided sufficient evidence to move forward.
The March 2024 shooting occurred in a north Jackson neighborhood at the intersection of Jayne Avenue and Lindsey Drive. Brown was taken to a hospital in critical condition and subsequently died from his injuries. Following that death, charges against the first arrested suspect were upgraded to capital murder.
For Jackson residents, the arrest brings a development in a case that had remained open since last year. The involvement of federal U.S. Marshals in the July 14 arrest reflects interagency cooperation in apprehending the newly named suspect. Police emphasize that anyone with relevant information should come forward to assist the investigation.
