AI-powered discovery platform thumpN launches in India with $3.75M pre-seed round

thumpN, an India-based live entertainment discovery and ticketing service led by former Paytm Insider executive Varun Khare, launched July 6 with an AI conversational agent and raised more than $3.75 million in pre-seed funding from industry and celebrity backers.

thumpN, a new India-based live entertainment discovery and ticketing platform, went public July 6 with an artificial intelligence agent at its core and a more than $3.75 million pre-seed round behind it. The company bills itself as India’s first “AI-native” service aimed at simplifying how people find and plan outings to concerts, club shows and other live experiences.

Product and strategy

At the center of thumpN is a conversational AI named Shadow, designed to recommend live events tailored to a user’s tastes. The service combines the AI agent with a network of human curators — artists, promoters and venue insiders — to bridge algorithmic suggestions with industry expertise.

“This started from a simple frustration,” said founder Varun Khare. “Discovery today is fragmented across social feeds, algorithms, WhatsApp groups, and word of mouth.”

Khare, who previously served as chief operating officer of Paytm Insider, emphasized that thumpN intends to focus on discovery rather than producing events or creating original IP. The company positions itself as an enabling platform that helps the broader live ecosystem grow rather than competing against it.

Backers and market context

According to Inc42, the pre-seed round counted several prominent investors and industry figures. Notable names tied to the round include the family office of Paytm founder Vijay Shekhar Sharma (VSS Investco), Paytm CFO Madhur Deora, and media and investment executives such as VG Jairam and Shray Chandra. The round also lists music artists Arijit Singh, Sunidhi Chauhan and Badshah on the cap table.

Khare’s background connects directly to the market he is entering: he led operations at Paytm Insider before that business was acquired by Zomato in 2024 and integrated into its District going-out app, one of thumpN’s competitors.

Scale and opportunity

thumpN estimates India hosts more than 40,000 live events a year across 319 cities, and points to rapid growth in the live sector: live events were the fastest-growing segment of India’s media and entertainment economy in 2025, expanding by 44% year-on-year, according to the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) figures cited by the company.

  • Product focus: AI-led event discovery via conversational interface (Shadow) supported by curators.
  • Business strategy: Enable the existing ecosystem, not produce events or proprietary IP.
  • Funding: $3.75M+ pre-seed from investors and music artists.

The introduction of an AI-native discovery layer arrives amid broader shifts in how audiences source events: fragmented feeds, private messaging and multiple ticketing channels have made discovery uneven. thumpN’s approach seeks to consolidate recommendations into a single conversational experience while leaning on human curation to maintain local knowledge and taste-specific insight.

As thumpN rolls out, its chief challenges will include differentiating from incumbents such as District, scaling curated coverage across hundreds of cities and converting recommendations into ticket sales. The presence of high-profile investors and artists on its cap table signals early industry confidence, but the competitive landscape for live discovery and ticketing in India remains crowded and fast-evolving.

For now, thumpN’s launch underscores how AI is increasingly being woven into consumer-facing music and events services — not to replace human judgment, the company says, but to make it easier for people to find what’s happening where they live.
