MILWAUKEE — About 2,700 city voters will have new places to cast ballots for the Partisan Primary Election on Aug. 11 after the Milwaukee Election Commission (MEC) moved polling locations in four wards because of school construction and a building fire.
What changes for residents
The MEC says it will notify impacted voters by mail and place signage at both the former and new polling sites. Polls will still open 7 a.m. and close 8 p.m. on Election Day. All absentee ballots must be received at the Central Count location by that 8 p.m. deadline to be counted, and secure ballot drop boxes will close at 6 p.m.
- Affected wards: four wards across two aldermanic districts, totaling roughly 2,700 registered voters.
- How voters will be informed: direct mail from the Milwaukee Election Commission and signage at former and new sites.
- Key dates: registration, early voting and absentee deadlines remain in place (see table below).
New polling locations and reasons
The MEC listed the specific ward moves and the stated reasons:
| Ward | Former location | New location (address) | Reason |

Deadlines and voting timeline
The MEC also reminded voters of important dates leading up to the primary:
- July 22: Deadline to register to vote online or by mail.
- July 28: Early in-person voting begins at Milwaukee locations.
- Aug. 6 at 5 p.m.: Deadline for most voters to request an absentee ballot by mail.
- Aug. 9: Final day of early voting at select locations.
- Aug. 11: Partisan Primary Election Day — polls open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
"The Milwaukee Election Commission will notify voters directly by mail, as well as signage at former and new sites," the agency said in its notice.
Voters who plan to use absentee ballots should remember that all such ballots must be returned to Central Count at 1901 S. Kinnickinnic Ave. by 8 p.m. on Election Day in order to be counted. Secure ballot drop boxes in the city will close at 6 p.m. that night.
Residents with questions about polling locations, registration or absentee procedures should consult materials mailed by the Milwaukee Election Commission or contact the commission directly for confirmation before voting.
