FREMONT — A colorful painting of a macaw photographed at the Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge is the latest Photo of the Day shared with the community.
The image, sent to local editors by Jeff Cast, shows artwork by his granddaughter, Gloria, who painted an intricate depiction of the macaw known as Gunner. Cast also provided a photograph of the bird at the refuge as a companion image.
What residents should know
The submission highlights two community contributions: local wildlife captured at a Fremont refuge and a young artist’s rendering of that subject. The photograph and the painting connect neighborhood interest in native public lands with family and arts activity in the city.
- Subject: Gunner, a macaw seen at Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge.
- Photographer: Jeff Cast, who submitted both the painting and a photo of Gunner.
- Artist: Gloria, Cast’s granddaughter, who painted the macaw.
"Amazing detail and color layering," Jeff told Patch about the painting.
