Virginia Beach — Elmer M. Andrade, 60, a longtime worker and active member of his church community, died July 5 following a battle with stage IV colon cancer, his family said. He passed away peacefully, leaving behind a wife, two children and a network of relatives and friends across two countries.
Family life and roots
Born on June 7, 1966, in Polo, New Washington, Aklan, in the Philippines, Andrade built a life that bridged his homeland and his adopted city. He and his wife, Marlita Andrade, were married on April 28, 2001, at Binondo Church in Manila. Together they raised two children: a daughter, Erika Andrade, and a son, Ivan Andrade.
Those milestones were sources of pride. Among the family’s notable achievements: their son’s service in the United States Air Force and their daughter’s degree in computer science. Family members described Andrade as generous and quick to help others.
Work, faith and community ties
Andrade worked as a plate mounter for Fortis Solutions Group and had previous employment with AGI Corporation. He was a devoted parishioner at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Virginia Beach, where his faith and friendships were important parts of his life.
